I have to say that I think this is a GROSS overpay by the Bills.
Yes, Chris Johnson has been a stud in the past, but we're looking at a contract year deal for a player who has 210 yards 5 games into the season, averaging 2.9 yards per carry.
He's fumbled more than he's scored.
He might regain some form, but that's not worth an up and coming tight end AND a first round pick.
Very lopsided trade in my eyes. But that's just my humble opinion.

This is about as bad as it gets. Maybe if the pick was removed.

CJ2K is gonna cost 10 mil next year or more and take a tag. Gresham has a great contract and a 1st. Bad trade

Not sure why a TAB approves this trade with very little reasoning from either side, and very little to say except "1-0" when there's this much backlash from the league.
Completely questioning this one right now.

Ahhh, let me give YOU a complete answer 49'ers.
First of all my approval came BEFORE what you deem as so much "backlash". BTW, there is a difference between backlash and expressing an opinion.
2nd'ly What you see as very little reasoning, I see as a valid reason for the Bills.
And so the discussion on the value of a starting RB takes on many forms. In addition, the unknown can cause a debate as wide as the sea. In fact there are a dozen or more questions we can always ask.
Will he become CJ2K again? or will he remain being CJX2K? Will he continue to start? or will he be replaced?
To me it boils down to this; Definitely NOT a trade I would do, but I have committed the crime of overpaying for players I personally viewed as being someone who would help me compete. By the same token, others willingly accept an underpayment for players possibly for the same reason of believing they are getting a better deal in the long run.
Apparently Bills are willing to pay the cost. They currently have a TE, but would like to add another RB who starts (with no regard to current production) and who he believes has a CHANCE to turn things around mid-season for him.
By contrast, do the Patriots really need an explanation?
Patriots gain a TE (in which they like few other teams already have 2 and some more) and a mid first round pick. With Gronk and Davis already on board, Gresham's play time will be limited to a bye week replacement or injury. Of course the possible over-valuing of CJX2K and under-valuing of Gresham could produce an additional high pick for the Patriots - much like the trade between Pat's/Titans and now Pat's/Bills, but that's beside the point.
Both teams get what they want out of the deal.
There's ALWAYS going to be opinions (or if you will "backlash"), but let's be honest here. People will pay what they think they can afford if they want the player. If you don't want him or think he is over-priced, don't pay the asking the price...pretty simple.
Hope that answers your question

Like I said in the chat. Thanks Bengals.
I can respect a different opinion. I just thought it should be posted since there's such a difference of opinion on this one.
I hope this passes now. Bills deserves what he gets out of this.

To add in the Bills just did add a Te to replace the one they just lost. So not losing too much production at TE while also receiving a rb they are lacking at this point.

I guess this is just where I have a different opinion. If I had 6 1st round picks next year, would that devalue any of them? Of course not. A 1st round pick is a 1st round pick, regardless of what else you have. You couldn't offer me a lesser player for one just because I had 6 of them. Similar situation applies here. He could have 1 TE or 10 TE's, that doesn't matter at all. Just because the value of CJ to your team is more than the value of CJ to another, that doesn't change his actual value. The quanitity of a position on your roster that you're leaving behind has no bearing on the trade once it's stated. You can only evaluate the players in front of you. CJ isn't worth a 1st as he's struggling and is on his contract year. Throw in a starting, young TE and it pulls the trade out of whack.

And about the quantity Having 10TEs is terrible I they're all top 20 TEs because you can't start all of them so trading lets say half of them for a position that you can start more players on (for example rb where Cj could be a vast improvement to the bills rb stable) is a lot better than keeping those excess of TEs and casting their trade potential
