Colts offer Kirksey a four-year, $4/yr contact.
Kirksey was #10 in LB PPGs. Comps: Vontaze Burfict: $4 Bobby Wagner: $5.5 Zach Orr: $3.7 Jerrell Freeman: $7.2 Sean Lee: $5.8 Tahir Whitehead: $3 Pos: $5 Jamie Collins: $4.5
We're offering slightly below the median, comparable to Burfict. Why? Because almost all of these players have a consistent track record. Here were their PPG ranks in 2015: 20, 17, 154, 12, out injured but had a track record, 99, 6, and 5. Last year, Kirksey was 83. So his best comps are Orr (154) at $3.7 and Tahir Whitehead (99) at $3.
Since we want a long-term deal, we're willing to move up one LB slot from Orr to Burfict at $4.

I'm going to have to disagree that Burflict, Whitehead, and Orr are applicable for reasons of providing a fair comparison. Both Whitehead and Orr were pre-season anticipated starter signings and Burflict's re-signing was in effect due to poor performance after coming off a major injury.
There is no dispute that Freeman represents the high-end ($7.2 Mil). It appears to me that those signed at $4 Mil have been either marred by injury or age, OR in anticipation of production. and that multiple LB's have been signed between the $5 Mil and $6 Mil range, creating a median of $5.5 Mil For the most part.
While I think the median value of top performers being re-signed would be well represented in the $5 mil range (4.5 to 5.5). Maybe the low of $4.5 at best.

Veto (0-2) I agree. Top 10 LB on a 4 year deal should be in the $5.0M range in my opinion.

Veto #3
4.5 would be on the low end, 4.75 would be good IMO.

The Colts offer Christian Kirksey a four-year, $4.75/yr.
Since we have $4.5, $4.75, and $5 as the three from the TAB, I'll go in the middle. This puts him above Jamie Collins, which is a bit rich for my blood, but understand the logic.

That's good for me, thanks for understanding our logic. Still a decent cut from what he would cost in UFA
