The Cincinatti Bengals, who capped off their 2012 Season at 10-2, will be looking to fill a few key defensive positions through Free Agency this upcoming season. Last year the defense ranked 6th overall in points scored, and helped to propel the Bengals into the playoffs. Had it not been for inconsistent play, there's no doubt they would have performed much better.
In 5 out of 12 games during the regular season the defense outright played miserably, failing to post even a minimum amount of acceptable points (averaging a mere 82.6 ppg). They averaged 137.8 ppg in their top 5 performances. Although they finished out the regular season on a relatively high note, their inconsistency quickly resurfaced in their playoff loss to the Texans.
"We've lost a few key defensive players in trades last year who will have to be replaced", says Darryl Ray. "That's where we'll start in our preparations for the upcoming season. If the opportunity presents itself to bring in a #1 WR however, we won't hesitate to jump on it, but filling the holes in our defense will be our main priority. Despite the offensive problems we've had this year, I believe the offensive unit will take care of itself."

Offense The Bengals offense fared far worse than expected in their 2012 affairs, finishing the regular season 11th Overall in points scored. Although they flashed the potential at times to play as a complete unit, they never really got it all together. Offensively they averaged 132.93 ppg in their top 3 games, while only 81.23 ppg during their worst 3 outings during the year.
The top 4 teams in the league averaged at least 125 ppg offensively, leaving the Bengals (101 ppg) with a need to boost their offensive output by at least 24 ppg in the 2013 season to be considered serious contenders.
In addition, as a complete unit, Cincinatti was one of 5 teams to record double-digit wins last season, and one of only two who actually swept their division.

Looking forward to a brighter future, the Bengals have decided to trade RB C J Spiller.
"Spiller was a guy we thought we could really build a solid offensive unit around. Unfortunately", says Darryl Ray, "the greater good of the franchise's future was a little questionable, considering our need to make a few key re-signings over the next couple of years. We expect a slight set-back in our offensive hopes for this upcoming season, but hopefully this deal will help us in reaching our long-term goals."
With C J leaving town, the Bengals will most likely look towards placing a tag on Michael Bush, or possibly looking towards FA in hopes of landing a RB.

Cincinatti - After hearing all the expectational "hype" about what teams are the favorite for playoffs and championship, the Bengals stand ready to continue where they left off last season, and are unmoved by normal league chatter. "It's the kind of things you always here year in and year out. This team or that team is the favorite to win because of certain players that are perceived to be top 10 players, says Darryl Ray. Not that we mind being the underdogs, as we have been since entering the league, but I think our overall record speaks for itself".
Heading into the 2013 season, Cincinatti feels they have what a lot of other teams don't. "The talent is there, and always has been. Getting consistent performance was an issue last year and will be our focus this year. We're definitely looking forward to getting this party started".

November 13th...
After the Bengals recorded a relatively fast and strong start to the season (5-0), they would go on to lose 2 of the next 5, with low scoring events in each game. The first a loss a to the Superbowl champions Houston Texans, and 2nd to division rival Baltimore Ravens. With their win over the Seattle Seahawks in week 10, they will most likely limp into the playoffs.
