Steelers Give DeMarcus Ware (LB - Dal) $6,700,000 (2015) Jurrell Casey (DL - Ten) $400,000 (2013) RFA 30th Overall Pick in the 2012 Draft from Green Bay 50th Overall Pick (18th in R2) in the 2012 Draft from Detroit 2013 Pitsburgh Steelers 1st
Patriots Give James Anderson (LB - Car) $8,700,000 (2014) Barry Cofield (DL - NYG) $3,100,000 (2012) 93rd Overall Pick (29th in R3) in the 2012 Draft from New England Wes Welker (WR - NE) $10,333,000 (2012) [F1]
I get a top LB on a longer and cheaper contract than Anderson, yes he hasnt scored top points like Anderson but Ware is a top performer. I also am sad to see Welker go, but at this price I would be stupid not to let him go. I am lucky I managed to get Britt, and now I just have to hope that Manning goes to Tennessee and Marshall isnt suspended. The 29th and 30th picks can either net me a top player who was transitionally tagged, or help me get a solid RB or 2

Hmm... Seems like a lot to give up on steelers part when looking at it from a long term perspective, but short term the production of Welker in this PPR league is very very valuable, so I see the upside for the deal for both sides.

Definitely a lot to give up imo. (2) 1st's and a 2nd in addition to over $15 MIL of cap added, basically in exchange for a 1 year benefit of a top WR.
Question is, does the short-term benefit outweigh the long-term consequences?
While voting is on hold - I think Steelers need to do the math to see if this trade would even go through...it appears it would make them over the cap limit...

Shoot I missed that 2013 1st in there the first time I read through. Seems like a lot to give up to me, but if he really thinks it would better his team I guess why not? But salary cap is one of those things not to mess around with. At the same time I see how this could really weaken Pats. I mean without Welker he has no surefire WR's. Britt while dynamite when playing has never actually put together 6 games in a season has he? Injuries could hit him hard and I have heard he could be facing a suspension if he slips up again. Marshall is facing a possible suspension which would be his second so it would be 6-8 games.
I certainly see the upside and downside for each side.

Guys, look at my WR's. WARD AND JONES. I definitely needed a WR, and Welker is one of the best. I can franchise tag him 2 more times.
plus cap is not enforced in offseason, so i have time to re-work my team.

This trade puts you roughly 10 mil over the cap.... You are going to have to get rid of a lot for it.

The trade won't be official until at least April 1st, maybe not until May 5th because as of now you can't trade tagged players until the tag deadline has passed. So I guess as long as you cut out 10 mil of salary room before the tag deadline and got under the cap the TAB would probably allow it, but I am just another member so I could be wrong.

How can a trade that puts a team 10M over cap get an approval? All its gonna do is put the Steelers in giveaway mode. I see the need for wanting a WR put patience is key. Also I have noticed some GMs ambush new GMs on here all the time. There should be a window where new GMs arent allowed to trade as they get accustomed to new settings and rules. Also just looking at the Steelers, they need more than just a WR to compete, so giving up the 2 1st rd picks doesnt make a lot of sense. Just my opinion.

I mean it seems the same GM's make questionable trades with every new guy that comes in right after they join. I know most GM's are probably wanting to make a big splash right after they join, but we need to give them time to figure out how the league and especially the salary cap works.

I commish two 30 team dynasty leagues and from what I have seen.. giving a minimum of a 5 day window where ZERO trade talk is allowed is best for the league. Also penalties to current GMs that message the new GMs in that window would be given if they violate that rule. If the new GM cannot wait that long, they probably werent gonna be in the league for the long haul anyways. That gives the new GMs a few days to look at old trades, examine their rosters and others, and look into the rules thoroughly.

I've been studying the rules ever since I applied (while ago). The old owner had no records of trades or anything, didn't look very active to me.

Is there any way I can decline this so that me and Pats could work out a deal that keeps me under the cap?
