This trade is bad IMO. Sheppard's contract actually locks him up longer. He is a MLB while Allen is a WLB and he is only starting because Session is out. LOADS more talent in Sheppard and a 2014 4th does not make up for that. Good job Ravens.

Unfortunately, sometimes the here and now takes precedence over long-term stability.

Did you ever think maybe allen has been racking up tackles since darryl smith has been out? He returns this week. Most likely meaning many less snaps as he will no longer be an every down backer. Ravens pulled off a perfect sell high on this one. I don't believe allen's value will ever be higher.

Theres a difference between starting and being an every down backer... some defensive packages don't require 3 LBs such as the nickel package. Russell has been a 3 down backer while Smith has been out but I'm guessing Smith and Poz will be the nickel backers now that Smith is healthy.

Jaguars SLB Daryl Smith (groin) has been ruled out for Week 7 against the Raiders. Smith has now missed six consecutive games. Coach Mike Mularkey said there was no setback, but that Smith was simply not ready to play. WLB Russell Allen has racked up 47 total tackles filling in for Smith in the nickel subpackages. Allen will continue to be a viable fantasy option this week for owners in IDP leagues.
Good news for you for one more week...
