New Orleans will offer Kevin Byard a 4y $15m contract at $3.75m per season.
This figure is based on the following in 2018 Byard was the 15th ranked Safety scoring 199.3 pts in 2017 Byard was the 4th ranked Safety scoring 213 pts over the previous 2 seasons Byard has averaged around 206 pts.
In 2017 the closest Safeties with a similar points (not on a rookie deals) record in 2017 were Glover Quinn of Detroit with 201 pts, his salary was $2.5m, and Devin McCourtney 199.6 his salary was $4m
In 2018 2 Safeties who were not on rookie deals that had scored 200-220 pts were Justin Simmons $3.8m scoring 203 pts and Malcolm Jenkins $3.75m scoring 213 pts.(Avg salary $3.775m)
Byard using his overal scoring over 2 seasons would put him the the salary range of Simmons/Jenkins of 2018, and for 2017 would put him in the McCourtney ($4m) and Quinn($2.5m) Bracket (Avg salary of $3.25m)
Average over 2 seasons = $3.51m. which is the tender amount given, his contract reflects an increase of around 7% over the tendered amount.

Byard is one of the top safeties in the league and young as well, not even close to comparison to a player like glover Quinn who was in his 30's when signed. The going rate for a top S the last few years has been north of $4 mil, and the leagues cap number continues to grow which should be reflected in the bid as well. Justin Simmons was just bid on at 3.8 mil and a 2nd rd pick. pretty substantial comp for a player not as good or consistent as Byard. Haha - Clinton Dix, probably the more comparable player based on age and early career success was recently signed at 4.65 mil. Rumor has it that Byards agents took this offer and emailed it around their agency office for the laughs because they thought it was a joke. Low ball doesn't begin to describe this offer.
Veto 2-1

Veto 2-1 How can I put this ? what a load of rubbish, I suggest you read the stats again he was 4th in 2017 and dropped to 15th in 2018, he did not fall a few places he fell 11 places, he has averaged 206 pts over 2 season, whilst he is a great player in real life, in Fantasy he is a top 12 Safety, I suggest you do not confuse reality with Fantasy Football. His salary is on average for a top 12 Safety in this league in fantasy football, what he earns on the Titans and in real life is not going to be equal to what he earns. Shawn Williams was the 2nd highest ranked Safety in 2018 FF wise in this league, (not on a rookie deal) he has a salary of $2.8m in real life he signed a 4Y $20m contract do you think his $20m contract is equal to his production in Fantasy Football, meanwhile Kevin Byard a 2017 All Pro/Bowl Safety in 2017 scored less points in Fantasy Football but is a better player in real life. The highest points scorer in this league last season not on a rookie deal, was Todd Gurley who salary in this league was $2.5m, yet in real life he signed a $57.5m contract, Matt Ryan signed a 5y/$150m contract in real life with $100m guaranteed, I dont see Matt Ryan having that salary in this league? I reiterate again, do not confuse reality with Fantasy Football, they are 2 different things.

These are the highest scoring safeties in our league the last two years. All of them on rookie deals or signed for more than $4,000,000 except Jenkins, Boston and Quin. This list puts Byard in the $4.5 mil range without taking increasing salary cap in to account. Name Pts Salary Jordan Poyer - 440 - $4,455,200 Reshad Jones - 439.5 - $4,626,000 Jamal Adams - 429 - Rookie Deal Kevin Byard - 412 - Rookie Deal Malcolm Jenkins - 387 - $3,750,000 31 yrs old Landon Collins - 383 - Rookie Deal Harrison Smith - 383 - $5,000,000 Ha Ha Clinton-Dix - 378 - $4,650,000 Eddie Jackson - 376 - Rookie Deal Devin Mccourty - 371 - $4,000,000 Tyrann Mathieu - 371 - $4,000,000 Vonn Bell - 348 - Rookie Deal Sean Davis - 347 - Rookie Deal Tre Boston - 346 - $2,700,000 Glover Quin - 341 - $2,500,000 Jeff Heath - 327 - $4,000,000
BTW, Gurley is still on rookie deal.

Byard was drafted in 2016, his total points scored since he was drafted is 525.3 at an average of 175.1 pts per season, in 2016 this would have him ranked as the 18th best saftey, in 2017 this would have made him the 19th best Safety, in 2018 this would have made the 24th best Safety.
In 2016 he was ranked as the 58th best Safety, in 2017 he was ranked as the 4th best Safety and 2018 15th best Safety, not really consistent; in his 3 years he scores on average 175.1 pts per season which gives him an average ranking as the 20th overall best Safety.
Once in 3 seasons has he made the top 10, between his rookie season scoring 113 pts and his 3rd season, the year after he was named All Pro he scored 199.3 pts a difference of only 83 pts, yet he started 9 more games in 2018, than in 2016.

Great, so lets take the average career stats of a player and compare to them to all of the one off above average seasons that are made out there each year. Defensive player stats vary a lot year by year, a drop of 11 spots in one year is the norm, but hey, since you want to include his rookie year in to why you feel he should be viewed as the 20th ranked S, here are the top scoring S from when Byard entered the league. he is the #8 safety since he entered the league, and this includes his rookie year which for most players is a throw away. So top 8 safety since he came in to the league, top 4 in the last two years, and salary cap is up $15 mil in our league since he was drafted. Guess what the #8 safety paid safety was getting three years ago? $3,750,000. He is one of the best young safeties, in fantasy or real nfl and deserves to be paid like it if he is going to be locked up for 4 more years. RFA shouldn't be used to get a 25% - 30% discount off fair market value. Again, This isn't even a low ball, it bounced off the dirt before it made it to the target.
Name Pts Salary Landon Collins - 682 - Rookie Deal Antoine Bethea - 615 - $3,500,000 Malcolm Jenkins - 563 - $3,750,000 Harrison Smith - 563 - $5,000,000 Ha Ha Clinton-Dix - 559 - $4,650,000 Devin Mccourty - 542 - $4,000,000 Reshad Jones - 533 - $4,626,000 Kevin Byard - 525 - Rookie Deal Tony Jefferson - 525 - $2,300,000 Vonn Bell - 519 - Rookie Deal Jordan Poyer - 510 - $4,455,200 Bradley Mcdougald - 511 - $1,750,000

The stats show otherwise, he has had 1 good season, if his performance went from 53rd to 15th to 4th, then would show consistency, if he went from 53rd to 4th to say 6-9th, then that would show a blip, but his performance dropped to 15th.
Its not a question of low balling him to get him cheap if his performance had been consistent, then I would have no problem offering him a greater deal, the fact I tagged him on a 1st for a $3.5m deals means someone could have come in and bid on him with a 2019 1st, why did no other owner come in and make a bid ? Surely a top 10 Safety as you keep telling me he is, was worth someones 1st round pick, an owner with the pick between 18-32 did not want to come in and make a bid for him ? not one owner came in and thought wow a stud Safety could be had cheaply. His stats show him to be a above average Fantasy Safety in his 3 seasons. Its quite possible he returns to 2017 form, and its equally possible for him to slide further say 18-20, is he worth his then $4.5m salary ? I tell you what, I would be happy to add a caveat to his contract that after the 2019 season, if his averaging scoring elevates him into the top scoring Safeties then his contract can be increased to $4.5m, for the remaining 3 years, if however this does not happen, then his contract can be reduced to $3m for the reamining 3yrs.

I agree with the Chargers that this is a lower offer than Byard is worth with his potential, but to me 3.75M yearly scratches the bottom of an acceptable offer for him.
Approve.
