Over the course of the Off-season and over the past few weeks we have harped on a GM's individual responsibility to keep their Proboards roster up-to-date, and making sure that both rosters, Proboards and MFL are accurate. Admin has even taken over part of the GM's responsibility to submit waiver requests on MFL when a player is won in FA in an effort to assist GM's, since keeping rosters up-to-date seem to continually present issues.
The importance of self-management cannot be stressed enough.
Recently, the Carolina Panthers won PK-Harrison Butker in FA. When seeking to add the player to their roster, it was discovered that he was already on the Arizona Cardinals' roster. It seems the Cards originally drafted PK-Butker in the 4th round (pick #14) of this past years draft. Unfortunately, the GM's failure to add the player to their Proboards roster, which is a violation under league rules, has resulted in a loss of the player to FA. In addition, the team has been assessed a $1 Mil penalty for the 2018 season.
Like it or not, it was a great heads up play by the Panthers.
While it may be hard for some to see, a GM's failure to keep their roster updated and to stay within the confines of the rules regarding rosters affect the whole league. As demonstrated, the Panthers, who are playing the part of contender is this seasons race, have just gained an undue advantage. GM's who do not want to update their rosters or maintain the roster minimum seem content on giving games away week after week, rather than strive to maintain and actively compete.
We have to get to get better at managing our teams...
In any case, when looking to add players to your roster, begin by searching the MFL data base. If the player is assigned to a team, check the teams MFL roster. If the player has not been added to their proboards roster (the GM has 3 days to add the player) a bid may be placed on the player.
